Key Characteristics: Short chains with tight fitting cells that touch; all setae directed toward end of colony; terminal setae slightly to much thicker and much longer than others; mucous producing; one or two chloroplasts
Confused With: Chaetoceros subtilis var. abnormis, which has only one terminal seta
