Size Range: 26.6-39.6 μm wide x 432.3-643.5 μm long (LUMCON Guide); 15-30 μm wide x 200-300 μm long (Dodge 1982, Horner 2002); 17-36 μm wide x 204-725 μm long (Steidinger & Williams 1970)
Key Characteristics: Large fusiform cell with fully developed apical and left hypothecal horns, and a rudimentary right hypothecal horn; left horn can be slightly curved to straight; epitheca gradually tapers into apical horn
Confused With: Ceratium extensum which is larger (greater than 1mm) with a long and straighter left hypothecal horn
