Size Range: 30-45 μm wide x 34-52.5 μm long (LUMCON Guide); 25 μm wide x 30-50 μm long (Dodge 1982)
Key Characteristics: Cell broadly ovate in valve view; very slight depression on the anterior end with two opposed short spines fairly close together; valves covered with pores and shallow depressions
Confused With: Prorocentrum scutellum, which has a slightly more pointed posterior end (heart-shaped) and two spines that are unequal in length and usually more robust
Toxin: None known
