Key Characteristics: Hypotheca drawn out into a characteristic single large posterior projection which varies in length and shape; wide left sulcal list that extends the length of the main body; valve surface with areolations; cells often occur in pairs, dorsally attached
Confused With: Dinophysis tripos, which has two posterior V-shaped processes and a left sulcal list that is broader posteriorly and has a straight margin
