Key Characteristics:Upper valve with deep depression in the center or smoothly concave; lower valve with projecting corners and with long setae, emerging well inside valve margin proceeding outwards almost at right angles to pervalvar axis then curving downwards; many small chloroplasts, found far out into the setae
Confused With:Chaetoceros peruvianus, which has setae of upper valve arising from near center
