Key Characteristics:Adjacent cells touch; setae fairly short and stiff with no basal part, and usually fused only at point of exit from margin, but occasionally fused for a short distance before diverging; all setae have distinct transverse rows of pores; many chloroplasts
Confused With:Chaetoceros decipiens, which sometimes has pores on terminal setae as well as fused setae, but length of fused area is usually longer before becoming forked, as compared to the shorter fused length in C. lorenzianus
